Connecting Lake Merritt to the Bay Trail
Lake Merritt to Bay Trail Pedestrian/Bicycle Bridge Design | Oakland, CA
LSA is the environmental team partner of the Moffatt & Nichol team charged with designing and permitting a pedestrian/bicycle bridge that will connect Lake Merritt to the Oakland Estuary and the San Francisco Bay Trail. The City of Oakland’s goal is to complete the trail connection with a safe and attractive bridge over the Embarcadero and the Union Pacific Railroad tracks and under Interstate 880 (I-880).
LSA has responsibility for preparing technical studies, California Environmental Quality Act/National Environmental Policy Act (CEQA/NEPA) documentation, and agency permits. Biological resources and cultural and paleontological issues are of particular concern. LSA will identify sensitive resources known and expected to be present within the two alternative route alignments and will provide guidance regarding avoidance, minimization, and compensation for potential impacts to sensitive resources. In addition to preparing a Supplemental Environmental Impact Report (EIR) to the Measure DD EIR (prepared by LSA in 2008), LSA will prepare the following technical studies in compliance with the California Department of Transportation Standard Environmental Reference: Natural Environment Study, Biological Assessment, Historic Property Survey Report, Archaeological Area of Potential Effects, Archaeological Survey Report, Noise Analysis, Traffic Study, and Section 4(F) Evaluation.
