Meet LSA’s San Luis Obispo Team
LSA has been serving clients along California’s Central Coast since the late 1990s. To better serve our clients in this region, LSA established the San Luis Obispo (SLO) office in 2003. The SLO team is comprised of 6 dedicated staff members who excel in a variety of specialties, including cultural resources, environmental planning, natural resources, and regulatory permitting. Due to their breadth and depth of experience, both geographically and in the types of projects they work on, they support all of LSA’s offices when needed.
Some recent SLO projects include the Monterey Bay Sanctuary Scenic Trail (MBSST), which spans the entire coast of the Monterey Bay National Marine Sanctuary from Lovers Point in Pacific Grove to Wilder Ranch north of Santa Cruz. The Moss Landing segment of the MBSST would provide convenient, safe, and legal access for pedestrians and bicyclists along SR-1 and offers one of the best opportunities along the MBSST corridor to enhance the public’s appreciation, understanding, and protection of the Monterey Bay National Marine Sanctuary. LSA is partnering with the County of Monterey and the California Department of Transportation (Caltrans) to provide environmental services to ensure the proposed development complies with California’s environmental laws, including protecting the ecological and cultural resources of Monterey Bay, in the design and eventual construction of the bicycle and pedestrian pathway.
Another project managed out of the SLO office was the Inn at Mattei’s Tavern in Los Olivos, a historic inn and restaurant built by a Swiss immigrant in 1886 to serve travelers on the Pacific Coast railway. In 2012, developers sought to create a modern-day inn while preserving the historic origins of Mattie’s Tavern.
LSA partnered with the County of Santa Barbara to provide environmental services to ensure the proposed development complied with California’s environmental laws, including
retaining historic characteristics, in the design and eventual construction of the new development.
The SLO team is community minded and always looking for ways to give back. Every year, they adopt a family in need for the holiday season and provide much needed essentials as well as plenty of nonessentials to brighten the family’s holidays and provide for them all year long. Additionally, the SLO team incorporates sustainability into both their work and personal lives. This includes activities such as participating in Bike to Work Day to show their support for alternative transportation/reducing greenhouse gas emissions and hosting a booth at the annual SLO Earth Day Fair.
The SLO team works hard to support their clients and each other. Sometimes that means taking a break from business as usual to get together and do something fun. The team loves to celebrate! Every year, they host a uniquely themed potluck and pumpkin decorating fun-filled day. For team member birthdays, they put together surprise celebrations, take a few minutes to enjoy the special recipient’s favorite snack, and present them with a top secret “Birthday Polaroid” board that incorporates some of their favorite things. Talk about a great work/life balance and team spirit!
